Federal funding for low-income housing fell 56% from 1976 to 2007.

In 2009, a worker would need to earn $14.97 to afford a one-bedroom apartment and $17.84 to afford a two-bedroom apartment. (National Low Income Housing Coalition, 2009)

In the median state, a minimum wage worker would have to work 89 hours each week to afford a two-bedroom apartment at 30% of his or her income, which is the federal definition of affordable housing.  (National Low Income Housing Coalition, 2009)

Families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.

40% of the homeless population is veterans.
